The LEWB 12-Month Mastery Roadmap
This plan is designed to guide you from functional communication - where you can convey basic ideas and participate in everyday conversations-to an executive-level command of the language, enabling you to engage confidently in complex discussions and negotiations.
Each month, you will focus on targeted skills, including business vocabulary, presentation techniques, and cultural nuances that are critical in a professional setting. Our roadmap not only maps out your progress but also motivates you by visualising your transformation over the year. By following this structured approach, you will build the proficiency necessary to navigate the demands of the business world with ease and confidence. This systematic progression will not only enhance your language abilities but also position you for greater success in your professional aspirations.
- The Focus: Breaking the "Language Barrier" and building a professional vocabulary.
- Key Activity: Intensive practise on "Self-Introduction" and "Corporate Basics."
- Your Milestone: By the end of Month 3, you will no longer feel a "pit in your stomach" when the phone rings and you have to answer in English. You will be able to handle standard office interactions with ease.
Phase 2: The Art Of Influence (Months 4–6)
- The Focus: Transitioning from passive listening to active participation.
- Key Activity: Participating in LEWB Role-Play Workshops focusing on conflict resolution, negotiation, and providing feedback.
- Your Milestone: You will find yourself speaking up in meetings without being asked. Your emails will shift from "simple and short" to "clear and professional," utilising correct industry-specific terminology.
Phase 3: The Leadership Shift (Months 7–9)
- The Focus: Public speaking, presentation skills, and "Thinking in English."
- Key Activity: Delivering mock presentations and receiving high-fidelity feedback on your tone, pace, and body language.
- Your Milestone: You will be able to deliver a 10-minute presentation to a board of directors with minimal notes. You will begin to notice that you are "translating" less in your head and "responding" more instinctively.
Phase 4: The Executive Polish (Months 10–12)
- The Focus: Mastery of nuance, humour, and high-level networking.
- Key Activity: Advanced writing—proposals, executive summaries, and formal business cases.
- Your Milestone: You have achieved Advanced Fluency. You can navigate complex social nuances, understand "between the lines" in negotiations, and represent your company (or yourself) at the highest level of South African or international business.
Progress Tracking Table
Timeframe | Skill Level | Real-World Capability |
Month 1 | Functional | You can follow a conversation and reply with basic sentences. |
Month 4 | Conversational | You can explain complex problems and suggest solutions. |
Month 8 | Proficient | You can debate, persuade, and lead a small team discussion. |
Month 12 | Executive | You are a confident communicator who leads through language. |
By the end of this year, you won't just be "better at English"—you will be a more competitive professional in the Gauteng market. You are training with a school that understands the local corporate culture and the global standards required to win."A year will pass anyway. You can spend it staying where you are, or you can spend it becoming the person who commands the room."
